The conference "Demands, opportunities and challenges in technology transfer, connection in the Northern Midlands and Mountains"

On the afternoon of November 17, 2020, in Thai Nguyen, State Agency for Technology innovation (SATI) in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology of Thai Nguyen and University of Agriculture and Forestry (Thai Nguyen University) to organize  the Conference "Demands, opportunities and challenges in technology transfer and connection in the Northern Midlands and Moutains”.

Attending the event were Mr. Tran Van Tung - Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Nguyen Van Thinh - Vice Chairman of Vietnam Cooperative Union, Mr. Pham Hong Quang - Director of Thai Nguyen University; leaders of the SATI and a number of departments and institutes under the Ministry of Science and Technology, leaders of the Department of Science and Technology of Thai Nguyen and some departments, associations of Thai Nguyen province; leaders of University of Agriculture and Forestry and member universities of Thai Nguyen University; a number of research institutes, universities, technology transfer intermediaries and enterprises inside and outside Thai Nguyen province.

Overview of the Conference


Giving speech at the Conference, Prof.Dr. Pham Hong Quang - Director of Thai Nguyen University said that Thai Nguyen University performs national strategic tasks, regional development tasks of the country, is a training and scientific research center of the Northern Midlands and Mountains, effectively serving the socio-economic development of the region and the country.

Regarding scientific research and science and technology progress transfer, in the period 2015-2020, Thai Nguyen University implemented 8 S&T programs, 45 State-level projects, 3 pilot production projects at Ministry of Education and Training; 02 Ministry-level S&T programs; 408 assignments at ministry and university level; 77 provincial-level projects; 7 projects, 18 international cooperation projects with a total budget of 3.44 million USD. Thai Nguyen University is in the top 10 universities with the best international publication in Vietnam, ranked 3/35 in internal force index, published 6,998 scientific articles, of which 5,083 articles were published on domestic magazines, 1,328 posts in international journals; Especially, there are 587 articles published in prestigious international journals. At the same time, Thai Nguyen University has 21 S&T products recognized for intellectual property, including 7 Decisions on the protection of plant varieties, and 1 invention issued with the Decision accepting valid applications. Along with that, Thai Nguyen University has built a network of S&T supply and demand with the Department of Science and Technology of Bac Giang province with hundreds of S&T products which are processes and technical solutions ready to be transferred; establishing Human Resources Supply and Start-up Support Center; signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with 14 provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region, signed hundreds of technology transfer contracts with businesses, production and business establishments. Up to now, Thai Nguyen University has had Agriculture and Forestry University, University of Industrial Technology set up Center for Technology Incubation and Innovation Start-up Support in operation with initial results. Since 2017, the university has cooperated  National Agency for Technology Entrepreneuship and Commercialization Development (NATEC), Department of Science and Technology of Thai Nguyen to organize a number of forums "Lighting startups" and contest "Start-up ideas" for students and young lecturers of Thai Nguyen University, Thai Nguyen province, attracting participations of hundreds of officials, lecturers, students and young people in the province.

At the conference, SATI introduced the "Guide to the operation of technology supply - demand points" in order to unify the operation of technology supply - demand connection points; improve capacity, operational efficiency, strengthen linkages to connect supply and demand of technology, intermediaries of the science and technology market.

In the discussion session, under the chairmanship of Mr. Tran Van Tung, representatives from research institutes, universities, businesses, and intermediaries of S&T transfer raised many issues on technology application and transfer between universities and enterprises; The State's role in supporting the application of technology transfer and innovation for enterprises, cooperatives and unions of cooperatives, in reality the need of technology application and reception in the current context. .. The speakers who are leaders of SATI, Vietnam Cooperative Alliance - VCA, Thai Nguyen University answered relevant contents. Through the exchange opinions between delegates and speakers at the Workshop, Deputy Minister Tran Van Tung highly appreciated the workshop's results. Managers, scientists and businesses were able to exchange in technology application and transfer activities, partly solved questions, concerns and problems from practice of connecting supply - demand technology to serve production and life for the Northern Midlands and Mountains in particular and the country in general./.
